About the Opportunity

Are you looking to work in a positive, stimulating environment? The NHS Engagement and Access (NEAM) Manager will play a critical role within the prioritised Account teams within the Market Access field division. This will be supporting primary, secondary care organisations and specialised services for the London region, delivering value to customers through the Sanofi Genzyme portfolio. We need to move towards partnership to ensure long-term sustainability by finding shared goals with the UK health system partners to ultimately help patients.

The role itself is a customer facing position and will be responsible for developing strong customer relationships with those involved in the market access and approval of Specialty medicines and Commissioning of the appropriate Patient Specialist services.

In the role the responsibilities will involve:

Knowledge of the commercial environment

  • Develops and maintains productive and sustained relationships with key influencers, who have the capability to influence, promote or inhibit Sanofi  Genzyme business within the local and Regional health Economy (e.g. Medicines Management, Public Health, NICE implementation Leads, Procurement, Pharmacy Teams, High Cost and Specialist Commissioning, Clinical KOLs and associated NHS group e.g. Cancer Alliance, Regional NHSE).
  • Develops an in depth understanding of the new NHS customers and organisations including their financial and organisational objectives, commissioning processes and providers, in order to develop appropriate opportunities for Sanofi Genzyme that meet the specialist services and customer needs.
  • To be an expert on the Specialist Care environment by constantly keeping a breadth of the changing NHS by understanding national policies, local priorities and helping with implementation for local health organisations. A very strong understanding of Integrated care & Specialist commissioning e.g. CDF process and medicines management or devolved alternative systems, market access principles and, Patient Flows Area Prescribing Committees and relevant clinical networks.
  • Providing appropriate activities to allow the NHS to effectively plan medicines access eg Advanced budgetary notification with appropriate stakeholders.

Develop and agree implementation of the Business Plan

  • Works with the cross-functional Account team, to defines and demonstrate a strategic long-term view based on a clear understanding of local and regional customer needs and national brand strategy over the LRP time horizon.
  • Accountable for designing, developing and integrating the Regional business plan with the local Account teams using the Sanofi Genzyme business planning process.  Teams will be empowered to allocate resources according to opportunity and the needs of the customer within each Region and will be measured upon generation of a high-quality plan and outcomes achieved, both for customers/patients and the business.
  • Works with MSLs and Real-World Insight to really understand the local environment, the policies in place and the goals of critical health care decision makers/payers who make decisions on the Sanofi Genzyme portfolio.  Shapes (rather than being subject to) the local environment to achieve optimal patient outcomes and market profitability throughout the lifecycle of the portfolio.
  • Support the Segmentations and prioritises accounts based on National direction using Regional and local indicators and supports the local team on market access, resourcing decisions, based upon patient need and win: win opportunities.
  • As part of the Regional business plan, the NEAM helps develops a plan for all accounts.  This details the current NHS environmental and service situations. Set SMART objectives and supports the patient forecast.
  • Plan implementation in line with Market access and commercial objectives.
  • Delivers impactful face to face or virtual and group interactions with key influencers through conversational and yet compelling argumentation using the principles of Account Based Selling.

Lead on partnership opportunities and commercial connections

  • Anticipation of future NHS Service needs necessary for the Implementation of Sanofi Genzyme Portfolio.
  • Leads on Joint Working with the NHS in line with the Sanofi Joint Working SOP.
  • Effective prioritisation and application of bespoke value propositions based on the segmentation of key accounts.
  • Communicate an understanding of customers’ current and future needs and the local health economic environment to colleagues across Sanofi (i.e. Value and Access, sales and Marketing, Market Research etc) to ensure future business planning reflects current and future needs of the local/Regional/National healthcare environment.
  • Responsible for upholding the integrity of Sanofi's vision and aligning this with the strategy of the NHS.

About You

To excel in the role you’ll need to have:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, preferably with a science background.
  • Detailed understanding of ABPI Code of Practice and its practical application in a business environment.  ABPI qualified.
  • Detailed knowledge of the NHS, its agenda, the local resulting changes / needs are and how these link to Company goals.
  • Detailed knowledge of NHS Commissioning and finances.
  • Demonstrable experience in delivering commercial and patient outcomes through partnership with the NHS.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence relationships and leverage knowledge internally across a matrix structure, to optimise opportunities with customers and achieve shared goals.
  • Proven commercial acumen, with clear understanding of the business market dynamics and the ability to accurately assess and convey market access intelligence to shape plans and targets.
  • Detailed understanding of ABPI Code of Practice and its practical application in a business environment. Ability to rapidly and accurately assess business opportunities.
  • Demonstrated flair and courage for proposing creative solutions and taking calculated risks.
  • Demonstrated strength in negotiating with customers and associated stakeholders to drive mutually beneficial solutions.
  • Experience of successfully generating sales opportunities and patient outcomes by developing partnerships with customers at the local NHS accounts (e.g. PCTs in England) and an understanding of the interfaces between those accounts and other services such as acute trusts.


  • Highly analytical.
  • Ability to dynamically segment accounts.
  • Fully conversant with in-market and in-house performance indicators.
  • Ability to accurately forecast sales results based on a robust environmental understanding and positive attitude to the achievement of business goals.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Demonstrated strength in designing and delivering easily adoptable account plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence relationships and leverage knowledge internally across a matrix structure, to optimise opportunities with customers and achieve shared goals.
  • Ability to anticipate change and be ahead of the game.
  • The ability to undertake broad business to business discussions with a wide range of customers.
  • Emotionally intelligent - for example the ability to distinguish and rationalise Regional team vs. business needs.
  • Ideally needs to have had first line sales management and NHS liaison experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the Sanofi Genzyme related product portfolio, strategy and services.
