Position Overview:

The Research Associate contributes to the development and execution of purification protocols in support of company goals. The Research Associate is responsible for executing purification experiments, collecting and processing samples, keeping detailed experimental records, and participating in discussions of data analysis, troubleshooting, and process development/improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assist research team to develop new purification workflows.

  • Execute downstream processes for generation of research-grade material, keeping detailed laboratory notebook records.

  • Manage and maintain required reagents, laboratory environment and equipment needed to carry out assignments.

  • Prepare research reports and presentation for the team meetings.

  • Document protocols and contribute to the development of standard operating procedures.

  • Work closely with the team/ project leader to complete highest priority work to reach the team goals and milestones.

  • Seamlessly interface and coordinate with group members and managers to facilitate team objectives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus minimum 1 year of relevant experience in an academic or biopharmaceutal setting OR Master’s Degree.

  • Has a good foundation in general scientific practice and principles.

  • Experience and familiarity with protein purification techniques (IEX, HIC, SEC, affinity) and hands-on experience with AKTA instrumentation are highly desirable.

  • Hands-on experience with refolding of proteins from inclusion bodies, and filtration strategies (depth filtration, TFF) are a plus.

  • Experience in protein characterization (SDS PAGE, Western Blotting, quantification, cGE, endotoxin) are highly desirable.

  • Ability to move projects forward with basic instruction, following good lab operational practices.

  • Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively and clearly explain results to other team members.

  • Consummate ability to work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

  • Must be motivated and have the ability to work productively under pressure to meet deadlines, and have solid multi-tasking skills.

  • Must have permanent US work authorization

Terms of Employment:

  • Frequent communication (talking/hearing).

  • Regular sitting and reaching with arms.

  • Vision requirements: close, distance, peripheral, color and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Lifting up to 20 lbs.

  • Computer use: 25% of the time.

  • Noise conditions: Normal office / lab environment.

  • May work near moving mechanical parts or in a  laboratory setting with chemicals, unpleasant odors, and in areas requiring personal protective equipment.

  • Interaction with laboratory equipment, samples, supplies, and laboratory personnel may be required whereby appropriate precautions are to be taken per the Company’s Safety and Injury, Illness and Prevention Plans.

  • Travel: Rarely.
