Position Summary:

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based role responsible for cultivating current and future Thought Leaders by sharing evidence-based data to support commercialized products, to introduce forthcoming products, and to engage those Thought Leaders in Sanofi clinical development programs.

The MSL will:

• Report to the MSL Manager Rare Diseases and Rare Blood Disorders

• Require written and spoken English

• Preferentially based in British Columbia or Alberta

• Present data and disease management concepts on medical treatment to Physicians, Nurses, other healthcare practitioners (HCPs), and Patient Support Groups, when requested. 

• Contribute to developing research opportunities (local clinical trials & investigator-initiated studies) and educational projects at academic institutions.

• Provide therapeutic area support including response to unsolicited off-label information on products & therapies, if requested by HCPs.

Key Responsibilities:

Thought Leader Development

  • Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with current and future Thought Leaders.

  • Develop speakers and advocates among Thought Leaders.

  • Link internal partners to external Thought Leaders for education and research collaboration.

  • Advisory board development of scientific content which is relevant and aligned with global priorities.

  • Link Thought Leaders to other external customers.

  • Publication planning and implementation.

Medical Education

  • Disseminate scientific information including innovative medical education materials and research concepts to Thought Leaders.

  • Deliver clinical and scientific presentations to healthcare audiences.

  • Foster medical and scientific information exchange between the medical community and Sanofi.

  • Contribute to strategic initiatives and training of the sales/marketing teams.

  • Develop and maintain a database of relevant educational slide kits.

  • External scientific material review e.g most current and relevant publications

  • National and International conference activities: attendance, key abstract identification, executive summary of presentations and posters from the conference

  • Partnering with Medical Information in development and review of written responses

  • Clinical and Scientific training for both medical and marketing

Clinical Development

  • Study site identification, recruitment facilitation and enrollment.

  • Discuss and support the submission of Investigator Initiated Study proposals.

  • Identify existing data and facilitate publications as appropriate.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Present evidence-based clinical and scientific data to support therapeutic decisions in patient care.

  • Liaise between academic centres and Sanofi.

  • Contribute to the evaluation of grants for educational and research initiatives.

  • Interact with the US and Global Medical Affairs Rare Blood Disorders team.

Key Requirements:

  • Degree from an accredited university (MSc, PhD, Pharm D, MD) required.

  • Area of specialization related to therapeutic area preferred.

  • Post-bachelor’s degree from accredited university (e.g. MBA or equivalent): valuable, not required.

  • Minimum 1 year in an MSL function

  • Clinical experience in rare blood disorders (preferentially hemophilia)

  • Demonstrated experience in building relationship with Thought Leaders, pharmacists, nurses, and patient support groups.

  • Ability to critically appraise scientific data. 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Scientific and business acumen 

  • Understanding of the healthcare economic system

  • Results-oriented

  • Attention to detail.

  • Strategic agility

  • Entrepreneurial spirit/Self-dependent.

  • Leadership skills

  • Negotiation skills

  • Facilitation skills

  • Experience in developing and providing training and education programs.

Languages

  • Written and spoken English.

Travel:

  • The MSL Rare Blood Disorders will cover British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan, preferentially based in British Columbia or Alberta.  Travel is required up to 75% of the time. Travel will be primarily domestic. 

HSE Responsibilities:

Employee with a corporate vehicle

  • Drive the vehicle using safe driving practices, while complying with all current applicable laws and regulations, as well as all Sanofi directives.
